Death by EmiliaPaw5 Death by EmiliaPaw5
“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.”
- Oscar Wilde

Death
As a dark Shadow
Beckons his prey
Into the unknown
By a soft whisper
In the soul
- Cindy Cheney

As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
- Psalm 103:15-16

An original piece I worked on for quite some time, there is a lot of symbolism, please share what you think each element means to you.

Death personified, she is innocence, seduction and the sweetest temptation to venture into glorious oblivion. Her eyes speak of unimaginable wonders beyond and a time where the ties that bind are forever loosened~Justin Render

This artwork is available as a print. Thank you to the ImagineFX community, you guys helped me so much, you are all awesome :)

I like this very much. Her eyes look blind, as if all are equal before her gaze, like death.

This is gorgeous. The colours.. the reflection on her skin.. the expression... eep!

As for symbolism, vulture, owl, raven all have ties to death/ otherworld etc. Flying things, are all considered closer to the spiritual realm because they can well... fly. :P
You've got the hourglass there with time running out. The Bell puts Metallica in my head. Lol. Rosary for religious connections. Fruit basket reminds me of the dutch painters... there was a movement that painted these gorgeously detailed pieces of flowers and fruit bowls, but all had decaying elements in them, basically pointing out that all things, even beauty die. And I honestly can't remember the movements name. >_< Black veil, mourning. Her eyes are red and puffy like she's been crying. There's a scythe holding up her hair. Graveyard in the background.

Thank you :) I like your explanation, the owl is also a symbol of wisdom and watchfulness (How wise were we throughout life?) The bell is just a church bell, in certain churches it's rung when there is a funeral in process. Interesting that you pointed out the dutch paintings with the fruit baskets(during golden age). It's actually a symbol of how fruitful ones life was, not quite sure if that's the same symbol behind the dutch paintings, interesting never the less.

Thanks for the breakdown, I love reading what other people see :)

At the time, flowers were the cornerstone of the Dutch economy, so there was a definite connection of wealth or livelihood in the flowers. They would also paint the flowers in various stages, buds, full bloom, decaying as a metaphor for the stages of life. The bugs and decaying food etc. being symbols for mortality.

Evidently a fine arts education is good for something. :P
